It takes time for an artificial intelligence system to learn and accumulate data, and only a few functions can be commercialized, expert says
Talented people remain the most essential element of an artificial intelligence firm, while a database is also very important, according to a Beijing-based computer engineer.
An artificial intelligence firm should first have talented people before it can become successful, Xu Feiyu, vice president for research on artificial intelligence at Lenovo, said in an interview with Yicai.com. Over the last few years, many artificial intelligence firms have been scouring the country for talent, she said.
The second important element is whether the firm has its own database, Xu said. The third element is a proper business model, she said.
For example, Lenovo has already launched Xiaole, an artificial intelligence program designed to help customers resolve problems on their computers, she said.
Xu was one of the founders and a general manager at Yocoy Technologies GmbH, a spin-off of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) GmbH. Yocoy owns a mobile app that can help travelers communicate in more than 30 languages.
Xu said it remains challenging to turn artificial intelligence functions into products as only a few of them can be commercialized.Discover More
